2011: NEW CARS AND HYBRID TECHNOLOGY IN LE MANS 24 HOURS
2011 represents certainly for Hugues LARDY and Samtech not only a very busy year, but also the challenge of racing 2 new cars, as well as being part of the team entering the first ever Hybrid car in the famous Le Mans 24 Hours.

While Hugues LARDY stayed in Europe over winter in order to work on new projects, SMG finished the 2011 Dakar Rallye in 1st and 2nd position in the 2WD category with a Samtech designed buggy, with Matthias KAHLE (10th overall) and Ronan CHABOT.

Then with March approaching, Hugues LARDY ran for the first time a Porsche 911 GT3, for SMG, in the Winter Series as well as in some selected events of the French GT-Tour.

May also sees the beginning of the Kessel Racing new Ferrari F458 GT2 entry in the GT-Open Championship with regular Philipp PETER and Michal BRONISWESKI.

The greatest challenge was certainly the one setted up by SwissHytech and Hope Racing from Gruyère in Switzerland: Entering the Le Mans 24 Hours with the first ever Hybrid car. This was achieved on June 12th when the Oreca-SwissHytech crossed the starting line of the race.
The hybrid system developped in partnership between SwissHytech and Flybrid Systems is a mechanical system which is storing energy in a flywheel under braking and releasing it under acceleration. This system is hughly ecological as there is no extra battery to recycle.
Obviously, as every new technology, the full package requires continuous development and Samtech are very proud to be a member of this high-tech green racing program.
